The people around me know that I am a very musical person. If I am now traveling, I might be just around the corner humming or enjoying my favorite playlist. I cannot live a day without music. I believe every moment would be boring without music. Music amplifies the emotions within our soul. It heals, it helps us express and it inspires. Traveling can be very scary for some, myself not exempted. But it was through music that I got inspired to get out from my cell and see the world.
So here are some of the travel inspiring songs that inspired me to travel:
1. ‘The World As I See It’ – Jason Mraz
The song is just full of positivity. It is full of appreciation for the world. The whole lyrics packs a tank of positive vibes. This song has also made me see things with a new set of eyes. It inspired me to see more of the world and the brighter side of every situation.
You are the mountain, you are the rock
You are the cord and you’re the spark
You are the eagle, you are the lark
You are the world and you’re remarkable
You’re the ocean eating the shore
You are the calm inside the storm
You’re every emotion, you can endure
You are the world, the world is yours
2. ‘On My Way’ – Phil Collins
The first time I heard this song was from one of my loved animated movie, Brother Bear. As the title clearly says, the persona at the back of the song is about to embark on a journey going somewhere new to him. He’s on his way and is excited to meet new faces and see new places.
Tell everybody I’m on my way
New friends and new places to see
With blue skies ahead
Yes I’m on my way
And there’s nowhere else that I’d rather be
I cannot quote more of the lyrics as I might end up posting the whole lyrics here.
3. ‘I Lived’ – OneRepublic
This one is a song by one of my favorite foreign bands, OneRepublic. The song inspires the listeners to do the things that they’ve longed to do. To do the things they love and to seize every moment life is giving.
I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
Though I have already started traveling when I first heard the song, but if I wasn’t yet during that time, then this song might be my pushing factor to start traveling.
4. ‘When The Sand Runs Out’ – Rascal Flatts
I first heard this song on the television when the artist band performed it on one of the talent shows I was once hooked with. I initially thought that this is a sad love song because of its tempo. But the title got my attention and so I searched for its lyrics. From then on, when I fully understood the message of the song, I fell in love with it and since then has become one of the songs that pushed me to do what I love doing.
I’m gonna stop looking back and start moving on
And learn how to face my fears
Love with all of my heart, make my mark
I want to leave something hereGo out on a ledge, with out any net
That’s what I’m going to be about
Yeah I want to be running
When the sand runs out
The song talks about the sad reality of human mortality. It inspires the listeners to live life the way it is meant to be lived. To seize every moment with no regrets.
5. ‘Catch & Release’ – Matt Simons
The song embodies the majority of the essence of traveling, and that is finding answers. But most importantly, finding ourselves. Every person has their own reason/s on why they travel. It could be re-assessing of one’s self or simply just to escape and forget the hassles of life.
There’s a place I go to
Where no one knows me
It’s not lonely
It’s a necessary thing
It’s a place I made up
Find out what I’m made of
Ready to lose my feet
Take me off to the place where one reviews life’s mystery
Steady on down the line
Lose every sense of time
Take it all in and wake up that small part of me
6. ‘Closer to the Sun’ – Guy Sebastian
Traveling can be a great tool to move on and to escape. Away from hurt and away from the hassles and the race of what we call life even for just a few moments. This song has inspired me to let go of the stresses in life and go to a place and unwind instead.
Leave this place for outer space
We can rent a little house on Venus
And get closer to the sun
Leave behind everything you think matters
Don’t delay once you’re there you will see
7. ‘Neverland’ – Zendaya
This song came as the titular song of the recent musical play titled Finding Neverland. Like the song mentioned above, this song inspired me to go to places when I feel down and wanted to escape. This song has always been on my playlists. I listen to it when I get frustrated and wanted to get away or teleport to another place in reality or just in my imagination.
Whenever I was frightened or ever felt alone
I turned to the night sky at a star I call my own
Somewhere I could run to, just across the Milky Way
If you like, I could take you
It’s just a lightyear and a day
8. ‘Break Away’ – Kelly Clarkson
As mentioned above, every person has his/her own reason/s for traveling. It could be to look for a new place to grow roots upon. Going to a new and unfamiliar place and start building from ground zero is always scary. But it’ll mold you to become a better and wiser person. This song encouraged me to never be afraid to explore unfamiliar places and breakaway from my safe zone.
I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly
I’ll do what it takes til’ I touch the sky
And I’ll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
9. ‘I Will Always Return’ – Bryan Adams
This song is from another animated movie titled Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I got hooked by the song by the time I heard it from the movie. Though the song does not say about going somewhere new, instead, it expresses the longing to get home. A home might not be just a house or a place, it could be a person that holds very dear to you.
I hear the wind call your name
It calls me back home again
The sparks of the fire, a flame that still burns
Oh it’s to you I’ll always return
The opening line alone is beautifully written, full of scenic metaphors that ignited the wanderlust in me.
10. ‘Home’ – Diana Ross
Home may not just be the place but also the feelings associated with it. This song expresses the longing to come back home. The desire to return to a place, maybe of the past. Hiraeth (Welsh). Every time I listen to this song, I picture a place in my mind. A place I have no idea where. A place I’ve longed to go. Fernweh (German). This song pushed me to keep on traveling until I find this place I’ve pictured in my mind.
When I think of home, I think of a place
Where there’s love overflowing
I wish I was home, I wish I was back there
With the things I been knowing
Those are the entries on my travel inspiring songs that pushed me to travel which has become my passion over the years. What are yours?

The tenth one always reminds me of our Christmas presentation last 2015! Hahah!
Anyways, I’m not familiar with most songs from your list (or maybe I have heard them, just don’t know the title). I’ll try to listen to them one of these days so I would also be inspired to travel. Haha
